In marking the mid-point of an exhibition exploring the complexities and global epidemic of gentrification specific to the London borough of Hackney, Argote and experimental composer Nathaniel Mann will be leading a ‘ran-tanning’ procession around the sites that inspired it.
Starting at Space gallery on Mare St, the old English folk tradition of community protest via noise-making follows a fictional structure built by the Colombian artist from local desires borne from interviews with Hackney residents. Participants are requested to dress warmly and bring their own “bell, horn, pot or pan”.
Argote’s An Idea of Progress exhibition runs January 22 to March 19.
