Berlin Art Week, Sep 15 – 20

The fourth Berlin Art Week is taking over the German city this week, running from September 15 to September 20 at various locations throughout Berlin.

Like every year, the city explodes with art, with the abc art berlin contemporary and Positions Berlin art fairs both opening on Thursday, as well as over 20 institutional exhibitions, project spaces and private collections, and a stacked lineup of ceremonies, gallery nights, performances, talks and screenings.

The opening night brings the three different exhibitions with Redemption Jokes at nGbKIch kenne kein Weekend. The Archive and Collection of René Block at n.b.k., and the reception for Paul McCarthy‘s latest exhibition at Schinkel Pavillon. Other highlights include:

— 1 LUNATIC 1 ICE PICK with Clémence de La Tour du Pin and Antoine Renard at L’Atelier-ksr

— The openings of Carla Scott Fullerton’s If these walls had ears and Tyra Tingleff’s I gave the postman your name at Chert

— Tilman Hornig’s Looki Looki at abc art berlin contemporary art fair.

Molly Nilsson‘s live show at Berghain’s Panorama

— Aaron Graham and Bryan Morello with Send Cycle at Neumeister Bar-Am, with an installation by Cécile B. Evans and Yuri Pattison.

— Matt Goerzen with Low Floor, No Ceiling at Future Gallery

— Slavs and Tatars with Dschinn and Dschuice at Kraupa-Tuskany Zeidler

— Hito Steyerl with her first solo exhibition at KOW

— The Abjects group show at Import Projects

Gallery Weekend Berlin, May 1 – 3

Gallery Weekend Berlin is back for another run in Berlin this weekend, running at various locations throughout the city from May 1 to May 3.

There’s a lot to see, both in terms of events and exhibitions. Anna Zett, Mikkel Carl and Pakui Hardware are among the artists taking part in the Gislind Köhler-curated Crystal Readings at Soy Capitán. Other great shows include the fascinating (and poisonous) *Echoes* by Marguerite Humeau at DUVE, as well as Darja Bajagić and Aleksander Hardashnakov‘s Softer Than Stone And Sick In Your Mind at Croy Nielsen.

Then there’s Athena Papadopoulos‘s solo show at Supportico LopezIda Ekblad‘s RELOAD at Galerie Max Hetzler, and screenings by Mario Pfeifer and Renzo Martens / Institute for Human Activities at KOW.

Other not-to-be-missed ones include: Ape Culture at HKW, Alex Vivian‘s Scenes at Sandy Brown, the High Pressure Systems group show at KonzulatField Vision by Christian Jankowski and Jon Rafman at Future Gallery, and Windowlicker at Center.

Art Basel, Jun 19 – 22

Leading modern and contemporary art show Art Basel will once again be taking place in Basel and running from July 19 to 22.

The fair will feature over 300 galleries from across the world and over 4,000 various artists, ranging from some of the most famous names in Modern art to recent emerging artists. Some of the galleries and artists featured include Santiago Sierra at KOW, Ana Medieta and Martha Rosler at Galleria Raffaella Cortese, and Waltercio Caldas at Galeria Raquel Arnaud.

With works representing various mediums, including painting, installation, photography, sculpture, and performance, each day of the art show also features a full programme of events, including artist talks, films, and symposiums.

Independent Art Fair New York, Mar 7 – 9

The fifth edition of New York’s Independent Art Fair is on at its 548 W 22nd Street venue in Chelsea, opening March 6 and running from March 7 to 9.

Among the 50+ galleries exhibiting over the four days artists worth checking out come from Berlin’s Société and KOW, House of Gaga from Mexico and Vilma Gold from London, plus more.
