A yoga instructor with a licence to kill for Hrefna Hörn Leifsdóttir’s Amazonian All-Day at ArtCenter

8 March 2017

Hrefna Hörn Leifsdóttir is presenting Amazonian All-Day will be showing work at Los Angeles’ ArtCenter, on March 8.

Located inside graduate studio building in Pasadena, the space, founded in 2015, will play host to the “backpack launch” with açaí cocktails and an accompanying script referencing Tekken computer game character and Irish professional killer Nina Williams, excerpted below:

“In Echo Park we follow another Amazonian, Nina Williams that after retiring from being an assassin and a bodyguard started to believe in protection that comes from within. She bends over one of her customers in her private yoga studio to deepen his stretch.”

The project touches on earlier analytical references to notions of self-care as absent and ideological in the Sist u; legs dangling, hands tucked performance and exhibition, presented with Sarah Rosengarten in a similarly DIY space in Berlin , Cave3000, late last year.

The exhibition opens at 7pm, at the 870 S Raymond Ave, Pasadena, address and includes new work by Mona Varichon + Kiva Garber-Maikovska. There will be an exhibition called Pockets by Asha Schechter at Galerie La Croix.**
