Heri, Hodie, Cras

10 October 2012

Quick reminder for those many German readers we think about from time to time, Brazilian artist and fervent believer Stephan Doitschinoff brings his first solo show to one of our favorite Berlin places.. Gestalten Space.

In “Heri, Hodie, Cras” (yesterday, today, tomorrow) Stephan brings the latin-american love for pagan & religious imagery mixing to a new level, as man with strong faith (son of an Evangelical minister btw) sacred elements are always part of his art code. This exhibition features new canvases, drawings, and multiples incorporated into a mixed-media installation along with two of his short films. These films, titled Brilho do Sol (“Sunshine”) and Tudo é Vaidade (“All is Vanity”), document performances he gave in São Paolo in 2010 and Lisbon in 2011.

Something more than just mere superficial religious art (although we have to admit that more than controversial it’s somehow common in Latin America), Stephan is willing to denunciate and critique our modern society… should we go back to austerity and self-discipline? Something to think about… More info on his previous works (and films) on his page.
