Christian Henkel

Superficial @ Galerie Kristine Hamann, Jun 5 – Aug 17

5 June 2015

Galerie Kristine Hamann is welcoming Sebastian Menzke and Christian Henkel for a double exhibition titled Superficial opening at their Wismar space on June 5 and running until August 17.

Superficial brings together two German artists working in two diverse mediums for an exhibition about the materiality of meaning. Maybe. Not much info is given about the thematics of the show, except a few press images (above) that show the aesthetic (superficial, perhaps) overlap between their works.

Neubrandenburg-born Menzke comes from a design background, having done work in product design and graphics, but for Superficial he brings a new series of oil paintings. Meanwhile Henkel, who has extensively studied sculpture and wood carving, will present a series of new objects as a counterpart to Menzke’s paintings.

Heart Chor @ Kunsthaus Erfurt, Dec 23 – Jan 20

19 December 2014

Germany’s Galerie Kunsthaus Erfurt is hosting a new show featuring Marc Jung and Christian Henkel and titled Heart Chor, running at the Erfurt space from December 23 to January 30.

No concrete information is provided about the nature of the show or how the two disparate artists will fit into it. Where as Jung’s mixed media canvas works tend to have a frenzied and explosive quality to them, saturated with colours and textures, Henkel’s pieces explore form in a completely different way, utilising his background in wood carving and sculpture to create large-scale installations.

See the exhibition page for details. **
