Michael Wolf @ Flowers – London
25/11/2011 @ 8:00 am - 07/01/2012 @ 5:00 pm
freeOne of Michael Wolf’s latest stifling photographic series hast just landed @ East London’s Flowers Gallery: Tokyo Compression.
Although those poor Tokyoites are not the only ones being exhibited, two more extracts of his previous series “Hong Kong: Architecture of Density” & Transparent City (Chicago) take most of Flower’s ground floor bringing the complexity of city life through observations of how vernacular architecture and public space are used.
You’ve certainly come across his hyperdense and overwhelming photographic series that gave him the World Press Photo Award and the American Photography Award in 2005. Since then, Michael has established himself as one of the best photographers of the 21st century, and more particularly as a great human noise observer: from those first Chinese series to his latest “fuck you Google street view”.
Flowers is presenting his first solo exhibition in the UK making Tokyo, Hong Kong & Chicago look like inhuman hives we can’t scape from. A study of HK’s high rise residential developments, a look into the Nippon capital’s subway and its cramped conditions or the tiny fragments of life escaping from the glass layer’s of Chicago’s skyline. A must visit, make sure you pass by before January 7th.
