A Tale of Two Cities @ Goldsmiths Black History Month, Oct 18

17 October 2016

A Tale of Two Cities at London’s Goldsmiths Black History Month will take place on the evening of October 18.

Through stories of “knife crime, police brutality and gentrification, we’ll be exploring the realities of an area whose past and present leaves as much to be mourned as to be celebrated.” Encompassing film, music and poetry, the event will focus on both tragedy and joy, paying homage to the artists of Lewisham who have ‘shaped this country’s musical history along the way’.

The night will feature original sounds from Mad Professor (‘one of the leading producers in dub reggae’s second generation’), rapper and Mercury Music Prize winner Speech Debelle, the collected, spoken and beatbox and poetry of Xana, short documentaries by poet and filmmaker Caleb Femi, spoken word artist Princess Ashilokun, performance poet/writer/creative project developer Zena Edwards, DJ Pepper Coast bringing us ‘the sounds of diaspora’, Andwot who you can find regularly at London’s NTS Radio, and the vocals of writer/rhymer Brother Portrait who is also 1/3 of hip hop group Black/Other.
