The Hague

Lindsay Lawson @ 1646, May 20 – Jun 19

20 May 2016

Lindsay Lawson is presenting solo exhibition OPENING ARRANGEMENTS at The Hague’s 1646, opening May 20 and running to June 19.

The Berlin-based artist will be showing new sculptural works and recent film ‘The Smiling Rock’, still in production when aqnb interviewed Lawson in November last year. The Netherlands exhibition follows her first outing of her fascination with an exorbitantly expensive ‘smiling rock’, an agate geode, at Berlin’s Gillmeier Rech, an exhibition called Sad Hetero World, in 2013.

Up for sale on eBay for the past five years, never sold, with an asking price of $1,000,000, Lawson’s obsession with the rock, available in the ‘Everything Else’ category of the e-commerce site, carries on through to the contemplation of objectum sexuality —a sexual orientation towards objects that is emotional, romantic, and/or sexual.

Hence, ‘The Smiling Rock’ video work as a ‘coming-out story’ about a woman who falls in love with a rock, and some instructions on how to find it in the “outer limits” of eBay in the press announcement.

See the 1646 website for details.**
