Still Alice

Puppies Puppies @ OUTPOST, Mar 24 – Apr 17

23 March 2016

Puppies Puppies present their latest solo show at Norwich’s OUTPOST Gallery Still Alice, opening March 24 and running April 17.

For the press release of the show, Puppies Puppies have simply provided the exact Google search synopsis of 2014 independent drama film Still Alice starring Julianne Moore, Kate Bosworth and Kristen Stewart.

Alice, a renowned linguistics professor at Columbia University starts becoming lost on her daily jogs when she develops an early onset of Alzheimer’s disease. As the once-vibrant woman struggles to hang on to her sense of self for as long as possible, Alice’s three grown children must watch helplessly as their mother disappears more and more with each passing day.

Once Still Alice is Googledthe Puppies Puppies show may be anything: a proposal to think about the continuation from acting into life-after-film (i.e Alice is still Alice, after the film ends), or an homage to memory loss, self-preservation, or, perhaps, the ‘Still Alice’ reference is a decoy.

Puppies Puppies, who work humour, wit and sadness directly into known cultural figures, images, tropes and things like Starbucks cups and Lord of the Rings‘ Gollum, have recently shown at Lüneburg’s Halle für Kunst, Paramount Ranch, which aqnb wrote about here, and New York’s Queer Thoughts.
