GCC talk @ Sharjah Art Foundation, Nov 8

7 November 2014

United Arab Emirates’ Sharjah Art Foundation celebrates the return of GCC with a solo exhibition that will commence with a talk with four GCC artists on November 8.

The collective, formed in the United Arab Emirates in 2013, returns to the Gulf to present existing work recontextualised to respond to the specific site in question, the Sharjah Art Foundation. The exhibition’s opening on November 8 brings a 6pm tour of the show, followed by a talk with four GCC artists – Khalid Al Gharaballi, Aziz Al Qatami, Barrak Alzaid and Amal Khalaf – facilitated by Reem Fadda, the associate curator of Middle Eastern Art at the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi.

Once again tackling issues of culture and the collective’s particular response to such questions, the discussion explores not only the existence (and difficulties) of a collective itself, but also of one that mimics and recontextualise political coalitions through criticality and humour.
