On May 22, London’s Cinema 6 will host the first public screening of a new translation of Russia’s 70s film, 100 Days after Childhood.
The film, largely unknown to English audiences until now, is part of a mini-season called Three Experiments in Translation and commissioned by Cinema6, aiming to explore modes of translation in cinema and how these experiments incorporate dreams and ambitions.
Written by Aleksand Aleksandrov and directed by Sergei Solovyov, 100 Days after Childhood is set during a summer at a Soviet Young Pioneer camp and follows a teenage Mitya through trials of love, despair and ‘youthful foolishness’, as Solovyov puts it.
