Rowing: Iphigenia or A Girl for the Wind part 2

Ghislain Amar @ Stellwerk, Jul 8 – 9

6 July 2016

Ghislain Amar is presenting solo exhibition, RowingIphigenia or A Girl for the Wind part 2 at Kassel’s Stellwerk opening on July 8 and running July 9.

The show by the artist and Peach director follows a workshop (‘part 1’) organised by Amar at New Bretagne/ Belle Air in Essen that took a play written in 1985 by Yves Mercol (‘A Girl for the Wind’) that condensed the Greek play by Euripides (408 BC) and invited participants to re-stage it.

Amar has worked with this play —that was written by Mercol only once into a hard copy for his students to act out —throughout the year, dissolving or continuing it through translations and echoes and keeping it going from theatre to PDF to workshop to exhibition. This one-day exhibition seems to aptly bring the essence of the nature of the play’s existence, and the whole work into being once more.
