Photography Prize 2012 shortlist

3 December 2011

After the 2011 edition which saw Jim Goldberg wining the 30K Photography Prize, comes the 2012 for which the organization has shortlisted 4 talents trying to showcase diverse approaches to photography: from portraits taken in the toxic waste dumps of Ghana, to exquisite images of everyday moments and the conceptual use of found imagery.

The big for candidates for next year’s succulent prize are….

Pieter Hugo, nominated for his publication Permanent Error, a look into  the people and landscape of an expansive dump of obsolete technology in Ghana.

Rinko Kawauchi,  nominated for her publication Illuminance, an imaginary space where the fantastical is possible, concentrating 15 years of work, both commissioned and personal projects.

John Stezaker, nominated for hisexhibition at the Whitechapel Gallery earlier on this year, London, UK.

And the 4th and only Christopher Williams nominated for his exhibition Kapitalistischer Realismus at Dům umění České Budějovice, Budweis, Czech Republic last summer.

Last year we had a clear favorite, but it’s really hard to pick one for next summer… both C.Williams representation of capitalism and  John Stezaker’s cinematic disections are just as powerful, and then…  Kawauchi’s poetic compositions and the always harsh African reality brought by Pieter Hugo. Mmmmm still a few months before the jury pick the winner. More info this way. And our present… 😉
