Arca – ‘Thievery’

11 September 2014

Producer Arca has announced his album debut, Xen, to be released on Mute on November 4, with a new track ‘Thievery’.

As producer to a handful of FKA Twigs‘ pre-LP 1 songs and sharing collaborations with artist Jesse Kanda, releasing three EPs on UNO NYC, consulting on production for Kanye West’s Yeezus album  and selling out the vinyl release of his &&&&& mixtape, it’s about time the Venezuelan DJ produced a full-length.

Along with upcoming US show dates, plus UK and European tour announcements to come, the first track lifted from the upcoming LP, ‘Thievery’, features the idiosyncratic sideways sway and abnormal thrust of his album-less though still impressive oeuvre to date.

Laibach Resistance is Futile out Mar 4

9 January 2014

Slovenian political art group and concept band, Laibach, will be following up their 2006 album of Wagnerian Imperialist anthem interpretations, VOLK, with the again relevantly-titled Resistance is Futile, out on Mute, March 4.

In the (non)spirit of all outlooks bleak -capitalist subsumption, cultural hegemony and environmental catastrophe -the band responsible for deliberately, though controversially, aping totalitarian behaviours as part of Neue Slowenische Kunst (New Slovenian Art Collective) pointedly announces, “we are Laibach and you will be assimilated”, in the industrial title track. Other songs include ‘The Whistleblowers’, ‘No History’ and ‘We are Millions and Millions are One’, so you can see where they’re going with this.

Listen to ‘Resistance is Futile’ and see tour dates below and see here for the album trailer. **

Youth Lagoon – ‘Mute’

Youth Lagoon - 'Mute'.
12 February 2013

Here’s a new track from the Californian dream pop performer Youth Lagoon, in anticipation of his second album, Wondrous Bughouse, out on Mississippi-based label Fat Possum RecordsMarch 18. Led by a an undulant guitar melody, the hallucinating amble of ‘Mute’ is another promising harbinger of what’s to come after the lush composition of January’s ‘Dropla’ followed by the haunting repetition of “you’ll never die”.

Making his mark with the spartan sentimentality of 2011’s The Year of Hibernation, Youth Lagoon promises another romantic escape into his bizarre and world weary universe, while production from Animal Collective and Washed Out producer Ben H. Allen lends a distinctly deviant pop sensibility to his sound. **
