Audrey Hope + Morgan Mandalay @ Helmuth Projects, May 14 – 21

14 May 2016

Audrey Hope and Morgan Mandalay are presenting joint exhibition 8 Rows Back at San Diego’s Helmuth Projects, opening May 14 and running to May 21.

The exhibition press release is composed of excerpts taken from Tennessee Williams’ 1944 ‘memory play’ The Glass Menagerie and Anne Carson’s translator’s notes on Sophocles’ Electra. They’re cut up and slightly altered to present a full text describing the externalised internal of a universal “language of lament” dominated by Williams’ stage direction: “The narrator is an undisguised convention of the play, taking whatever license with dramatic convention is convenient to their purpose.”

Mandalay is founder and director of mobile project SPF15, that also presented The Arroyo Seco Garden Golf Classic “exhibition as miniature golf course”, in which Hope also took part.
