Leeds gallery Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun is putting on an unusual show this weekend, titled FR€€ ₮HI₦G$ and running from February 12 to 15.
The works are presented in a collective exchange-type setting, where each artwork “awaits ownership”, free to take away in exchange for an object in its place. Instigated and curated by artist Jack Fisher, the exhibition considers the value of art as commodity, as well as the interconnectivity of social media; the participants were selected through Fisher’s Facebook friends list and orchestrated primarily through Facebook Messenger.
The complete archive and documentation of the show will exist online – at www.freethings.xyz – and the works themselves placed outside of the context of the global capitalist economy. Aside from being orchestrated on the global capitalist economy of social media, that is.
See the Facebook exhibition page for details. **
