e industrial

Jean-Michel Wicker @ Sandy Brown, May 30 – Jun 13

2 June 2015

Jean-Michel Wicker‘s solo show e industrial has returned for another round at Sandy Brown, having opened at the Berlin space on May 30 and running until June 13.

Wicker’s solo exhibition already made its debut at London’s Cubitt last summer as the first solo UK exhibition for the Berlin-based artist and marks Wicker’s move away—or perhaps alongside, more accurately—the world of production, having worked in publishing and typography since the early 90s.

In describing writing as a “poor substitute for the joy and the agony of love”, e industrial introduces itself as a “meditation on human-machine reconfigurations, inflation and desire” inspired by the Italian Situationist Giuseppe Pinot-Gallizio and his approach to mass-production and collapse.

Jean-Michel Wicker @ Cubitt, Aug 28 – Sep 28

28 August 2014

London’s Cubitt is hosting the first solo UK exhibition from Berlin-based artist Jean-Michel Wicker, titled e industrial and running at their Docklands art space from August 28 to September 28.

As the founder and former editor of multiple publishing houses – including Nice’s Le Edizioni della Luna, Berlin’s Le Edizioni della China, and the current Ballabella Papers – Wicker’s obsession with literature and the written word consistently bleeds into his visual and performance work.

For his first solo UK exhibition, Wicker explores the joys and the agonies of love through a meditation on “human-machine reconfigurations, inflation and desire” that extends itself over an installation, a new publication, as well as theatrical clouds of smoke, extending a nod to the grandiosity of Italian Situationalist Giuseppe Pinot-Gallizio in the process.
