Abstract Sex* @ Hessel Museum, May 8 – 29

6 May 2016

The Abstract Sex* group exhibition is on at New York’s the Hessel Museum of Art at Center for Curatorial Studies (CSS Bard), Bard College, opening May 8 and running to May 29.

Curated by Dana Kopel, the show features Juliette Bonneviot, Jesse Darling, Dorota Gaweda, Egle Kulbokaite, and Marian Tubbs and aims to reconceptualize “sex in the biopolitical regime”, going beyond the veneer of a coherent body or self within an organic model of a society.

The title is inspired by Goldsmiths digital media theorist Luciana Parisi’s rethinking of notions of sex and gender on biological and cultural terms and posits a “post-sex adequate to a radically expanded conception of what it is to be human”.

Paul La Farge, Edie Meidav + Andrew Durbin @ KGB Bar, Nov 12

11 November 2015

“Innovative literary journal” Conjunctions is holding a reading event at New York’s KGB Bar in support of non-profit organisation Behind the Book on November 12.

The biannual magazine is published by Bard College and described as a space where “contemporary masters meet radical new voices through the investigation of themes such as exile, erasure, obsession, doppelgängers, impossible realism, cinema, or dark comedy”.

The event is free and will include readings by contributors Paul La Farge, Edie Meidav, and Andrew Durbin from the latest issue of Conjunctions, ‘Sleights of Hand’.

Durbin, meanwhile, published his first book Mature Themes last year and recently took part in John Giorno’s ‘It’s Not What Happens, It’s How You Handle It’ Sunday Session event at MoMA PS1.
