Julieta Arandais presenting solo exhibition The Organ: As the Ground Becomes Exposed at Basel’s Der Tank, Institut Kunst, opening November 17 and running to December 16.
The specially commissioned work is curated by Chus Martínez and looks at the space between language and image, offering up a new ‘organ’ of sorts that explores “the future of sculpture and perception while also more fully sensing the relationships that art establishes with the questions and debates populating our everyday lives.”
Recent exhibitions by Arlanda include Inhuman(2015) at Kassel’s Fridericianum and If a Body Meet a Body (2014) at Roma’s Galería OMR.
The free event and three-day programme, founded and run by artists, features exhibitions, performances, publications, screenings, workshops and seminars —as well as one-day symposium —responds to the increasingly nomadic nature of artists and artistic practice, questioning “how we live together in a global community”.
The project began in Vienna in 2003, then carried on to Los Angeles and is now in Berlin, where the theme this year is ‘The Imperceptible Self’, it will be documented in texts and contributions to be published in the third edition of ELSE – The Journal of International Art, Literature, Theory and Creative Media.

The exhibition, curated by Alexis Jakubowicz and Philippe Riss, is caught in the fiction of a long-sacrificed miracle, somewhere between “torpor and life”, inspired by a poem by Charles Baudelaire, a famous painting by Watteau, and “the eternal residence of love”.
Founded in 1895, the Venice Biennale is celebrating its 56th round this year, opening a month earlier than usual in the Italian city and running from May 9 to November 22, 2015.
Like always, La Biennale will be stacked with international artists—specifically 136 representing 88 national participants, 88 of which (representing 53 different countries) are showing in Venice for the first time.
Seventeen Gallery will be hosting two concurrent exhibitions – a solo show by Olivia Erlanger and a group show titled Morphing Overnight– at their London space, both running from February 26 to April 18.
Erlanger’s solo show, titled Meat Eater, begins with a transcript between a TL and an MH. “How should it begin?” asks TL. “It should begin with ‘do you remember’,” answers MH. From there, the two characters meander through what could be an art space, discussing symbolism and subjectivity, the “architecture for a history”, ending full circle with “I don’t remember.”
