Beloved in the Landscape @ New Bretagne Belle Air, Nov 25 – Dec 10

23 November 2016

The Beloved in the Landscape group exhibition at Essen’s New Bretagne Belle Air is opening November 25 and running to December 10.

Curated by New Bretagne and Ana Iwataki & Marion Vasseur Ralu, the show features work by Lauren Coullard, Lila De Magalhaes, Henrik Olai Kaarstein and Simon Lässig

The press release reads as a love letter, but to whom is unclear:

“There is a form of lucidity within you that I didn’t have before you came. My world was a series of mirrors, reflecting only my own obsessions. I was like a child. You were in this strange world of objectivity, full of things and plants…”

Coinciding with the group exhibition, there will also be a solo show by Jonas Lipps curated by New Bretagne at Bel Ètage

25 March 2016

Itinerant exhibition series, Emalin, is presenting the FOLLY group show at an as yet undisclosed location in Stirling, opening March 26 and running to March 28.

Organised by Leopold Thun and Jasmine Picot-Chapman, the Emalin project most recently presented work by Stefania Batoeva and Adriano Costa, titled Tia Deth, where the two artists transferred collaborative work developed at Swiss artist Fabian Marti’s TwoHotel artist guesthouse in Piracanga ecovillage to a garage in London’s Camden.

Meanwhile, there’s little information given on the FOLLY show itself, aside from an email and phone number to contact for details on the exact location (info@emalin.co.uk or +44 (0) 77 9464 5380) and a list of artists, including Batoeva, with Gabriele Beveridge, Charlie Billingham, Than Hussein-Clark, Jonas Lipps, Matthew Lutz-Kinoy, Cary Kwok and many more.

An essay by writer and critic James Cahill with illustrations by Issy Wood will also be published to accompany the exhibition.

I pledge Allegiance @ On Stellar Rays, Feb 28 – Apr 3

26 February 2016

The I pledge Allegiance group show is on at New York’s On Stellar Rays, opening February 28 and running to April 3.

Curated by Elisa R. Linn and Lennart Wolff’s km temporaer curatorial project, the exhibition takes it title from poet, art critic and poet Rene Ricard‘s 1981 essay on the East Village gallery scene ‘The Pledge of Allegiance’. The press release features an excerpt that refers to a certain ‘Artist Zero’ in conversation over ‘Marchesa de X’, a writer at “the nexus of creative forces” yet largely unrecognised.

The parallels between this text and the art world of the past still resonates with the global political climate of the present, as the 30-year-old essay references individualism, a “conspiracy of excellence” and war:

“We are living in a time of war: war remembered, war actual, and war anticipated. The sense of the moment has led us to the encampment where deserters from all armies are burning the small fires of discourse.”

The show features works by Jason Benson, Kerstin Brätsch, Debo Eilers, Nic Xedro, Jamian Juliano-Villani, Dani Leder, Jonas Lipps, Caroline Mesquita, Keegan Monaghan, Nolan Simon and Dylan Spaysky, as well as music by fellow contributors Tobias Spichtig and Theresa Patzsche at the opening.

See the On Stellar Rays website for details.**
