The rheo-GRANDE group exhibition is on at Mexico City’s Anonymous Gallery, opening June 30 and running to September 30.

Organised by Kayla Fanelli and Joseph Ian Henrikson, the show explores the formation and performance of identity, as well as “how self and language are defined within a contemporary condition steeped in virtual networked communities.” Petra Cortright, Casey Jane Ellison, Ed Fornieles, Bunny Rogers and Jacolby Satterwhite are among the artists exhibiting, in a cross-generational survey that includes the work of other artists whose practices date from the 1970s onwards, including Kembra Pfahler, Kalup Linzy, Charles Atlas and Cindy Sherman.

Further representing for those who’ve come of age with new technologies and the dawn of the digital era (“forever altering the way we look at images”) are Andrew Birk, Nandi Loaf, Cobi Moules,  Ryder Ripps, Mira Dancy, Manuel Solano, Ryan Trecartin, and Joshua Citarella and Brad Troemel‘s UV Production House.

Michael Mandiberg + DiMoDA @ Import Projects, May 28 – Jul 2

Michael Mandiberg is presenting Print Wikipedia: from Aachen to Zylinderdruckpresse at Berlin’s Import Projects, opening May 28 to July 2.

The New York-based interdisciplinary artist, scholar, and educator has written software that parses the entirety of free collaborative encyclopaedia German Wikipedia in order to produce book-format volumes of the constantly updating online resource to then be printed-on-demand through lulu.com.

The upload ‘performance’ and installation of selected volumes of the 3,406 produced for the German version of Print Wikipedia will run for approximately 14 days. During this time the gallery will remain open, at the same time as a projection of the lulu.com web browser, a computer with command line updates and a script posting to Twitter @PrintWikipedia will run in a representation of the materialisation of an archive that will be already out 0f date before it’s complete.

Happening concurrently is the “European IRL debut” of Alfredo Salazar-Caro and William James Richard
Robertson’s The Digital Museum of Digital Art (DiMoDA), dedicated to “collecting, interpreting and exhibiting digital art, while expanding the potential artistic projects in virtual reality.” Artists commissioned to present their unique approach to virtual reality are Claudia Hart, Tim Berresheim, AquaNet 2001 (Gibrann Morgado and Salvador Loza) and Jacolby Satterwhite.

Mature Themes launch @ New Museum, Sep 26

Writer Andrew Durbin is launching his first book, titled Mature Themes, at New York’s New Museum on September 26.

The poetry/art criticism/memoir takes up the subject of disingenuity in the Information Age, examining through various media, voicing what exactly constitutes personal experience nowadays – both online and off – and uncovering the “fading specters of meaning” beneath art and the art market.

The book launch will feature readings by Harry Burke, editor of the I Love Roses When They’re Past Their Best poetry anthology, and House of LaDosha artist-cum-DJ, Juliana Huxtable, as well as a screening of ‘Reifying Desire 6’ by artist Jacolby Satterwhite and a new video by Jesse Darling.

Jacolby Satterwhite @ First Street Green, Mar 9 – 15

Jacolby Satterwhite is screening three films, including clips from his most recent ‘Reifying Desire 6’ (2014), at New York’s First Street Green Cultural Park, running March 9 to 15.

Supported by OHWOW and OSMOS, the screen run, which includes ‘Forest Nymphs’ (2009) and ‘Reifying Desire 2’ (2011), follows attempts to decode the body by displacing it within an unfamiliar context.

Working across video, performance, 3D animation, drawing, and printmaking, Satterwhite explores themes of “memory, desire, ritual, and heroism” through his own body, while interrogating narrative processes across time and media, examining history, insider and outsider practice and queer phenomenology.
