Cory Scozzari

Cory Scozzari @ Almanac Inn, Jan 9 – Feb 11

8 January 2016

Cory Scozzari‘s solo exhibition ROSE: you slip your finger through the tear in my t-shirt is on at Turin’s Almanac Inn, opening January 9 and running to February 11.

Most recently, the artist and co-founder of Jupiter Woods has contributed to the Faith Dollars, Taxfree Imagination & Uptown Bliss exhibition in London and site-specific project Lacuna Sovereignty in Amsterdam. An extension of the London-based Almanac Projects, Almanac Inn functions as a residency programme facilitating an exchange between “young international artists, the local audience and curators, institutions and collectors.”

Further information of the exhibition is yet to be revealed but it will include a reading by philosopher Federico Campagna and writer Huw Lemmey on “sexuality, lust and politics”.

Faith Dollars… @ Assembly Point, Sep 10 – Oct 17

10 September 2015

Assembly Point brings a new group exhibition titled Faith Dollars, Taxfree Imagination & Uptown Bliss, running at their London art space from September 10 to October 17.

The show comes as the second exhibition for the new artist-run South London space, following their inaugural Back to the Things Themselves exhibition opened in June. “In an era of financial abstraction, absurdity and surrealism,” the FDTIUB press release begins, “this exhibition explores the political — fictional or real — contemporary experience of post capitalist realism (or neoliberalism or the global economy) through its ideological and structural context.”

Inviting a handful of London- and Berlin-based artists—including Kim Asendorf and Ole Fach, Lawrence Lek, James LowneEva Papamargariti, Cory Scozzari, Lea Collet and Marios Stamatis—the exhibition plays with the shifting notions of public and private in order to “resolve and (re)affirm a collective intimacy; a new form of intimacy”.

The event will be accompanied by an event organised by Stamatis and called Gilded Ceremony  on October 1.

Lacuna Sovereignty @ Gerrit Rietveld Academie, Apr 10

10 April 2015

The fragmented exhibition and research platform Lacuna Sovereignty is launching its first event at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie on April 10.

The project zeros in on nationalism and the role of the nation state within an increasingly globalized corporate world, examining zones where the lines of national sovereignty are blurred, or simply do not exist—places like special economic zones, economic processing zones, airports, international waters, military bases, and, of course, online spaces and their physical counterparts.

Tonight’s event brings a conversation between American artist Kari Altmann, London-based artist Anne de Boer, and Cory Scozzari, curator, artist and founding member of London’s Jupiter Woods exhibition space.

The three are working to develop site-specific projects that intervene on the places their work addresses, and the conversation will explore their recent work and upcoming contributions to Lacuna Sovereignty.

Distances @ Jupiter Woods, Mar 13 – 28

11 March 2015

Jupiter Woods is bringing a new group exhibition to its London space, titled Distances and running from March 13 to March 28.

The show features the works of five different artists. There is Andrew Normal Wilson, with whom we did an interview a while back, as well as Harry Sanderson, and Susan Schuppli and Tom Tlalim, with artist Cory Scozzari curating.

The exhibition will run concurrently with Max Stocklosa’s permanent installation, ‘More World Material: Coyote’, seeking to reveal the “layers of disproportionality and invisibility that are made more complex through the use of technology”. In specific, the show concentrates on the use of drones and overhead surveillance: the hidden labour of fragmented technological production, as well as their ethical repercussions.

Do I want an Old Fashioned? @ Boetzelaer|Nispen, Jan 10 – Feb 14

8 January 2015

Boetzelaer|Nispen is hosting a new group exhibition titled Do I want an Old Fashioned? at their Amsterdam location, running from January 10 to February 14.

Following a theme we have (happily) seen arise of late in the art world, the Emma Siemens-Adolphe-curated show takes the physical as its starting point, questioning the “relationship between viewer, artist and body” and exploring the contradictory definitions surrounding it. The exhibition asks “What if our pupil had a crack in its lens; allowing for a fragmented view of a world in which no singularity prevailed?” and suggests this crack as the fluidity through which true communication can occur.

Participating in the group show is May Hands with a series of sculptural paintings entitled ‘Feather Duster Paintings’ (2014) Sandra Vaka Olsen with a photo series called ‘Sunshield’ (2014), Cory Scozzari with a new body of work titled ‘Crossfire or five years old running behind you at the beach’ (2014) and Yves Scherer with a work that attempts to redirect the male gaze titled ‘Persian Rug’ (2014). There’s also Tore Wallert with a body-size installation called ‘Margot’ (2015), and Thea Govorchin with an erotic painting series called ‘Kirigoe Mima (霧越未麻)’ (2014) and a sculptural element titled ‘Hojōjutsu’ (2015).
