Optical sound and other tales
26/01/2012 @ 8:00 am - 28/07/2012 @ 5:00 pmfree
Our second favorite digital space in Paris is kicking off their cultural agenda for 2012 with a new exhibition and a couple of performances: starting Thursday 26th a dedicated “digital” night will take place at the southern Parisian center (strictly talking it’s not Paris anymore but…). At 19h the Cube opens the agenda with a private viewing of Optical Sound and Other Tales exhibition, presenting work by Pierre Beloüin, as well as videos produced and distributed by his Optical Sound label.
“Optical sound” focuses on the discovery of Pierre Beloüin’s work through his multimedia installation Awan~Siguawini~~Spemki~~~. A founding member of the Glassbox Gallery which has specialised in web art since 1997, Pierre Beloüin now works with the Optical Sound label, of which he is the founder and director. Consequently, the exhibition is complemented by artists’ videos produced or distributed by the label.
“Awan/Siguawini/Spemki” means “air/in spring/paradise” in Abenaki, the language of a Native American tribe in New England. Photographs of landscapes are accompanied by “musical landscapes” recorded by the artist at each location photographed. The installation was created during the ninth artists’ residence of the “Residencies Exchange: Alsace, France/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec” programme run by the Alsace Cultural Agency/FRAC Alsace and Language.
The exhibition, just like the evening opening is free + if you’re available that night “8_SilenceS” by Art of Failure and “System Introspection” by Nicolas Maigret will be part of the show to spice up the Optical sounds with some Internet white noise and a binary code concert. Too extravagant for you? Or maybe not sophisticated enough?
Just drop by will you?
