New Foragers @ Collyer Bristow Gallery – London
03/10/2012 @ 8:00 am - 13/01/2013 @ 5:00 pm
freeNew group exhibition to kick-off the autumn @ Collyer Bristow (and curated as usual by Day & Gluckman): New Foragers, a show about finding, collecting, selecting, editing, eradicating, revealing….. and transforming.
10 modern alchemists playing with found objects that go from religious imagery or found post-it notes, to plastic toys or coat hangers… anything and everything is reusable and suitable for a new artwork, for a new life and a new meaning.
Take Richard Stone’s works for ex, they have a local implication (as its original objects tend to come from local car-boot sales or charity shops), and tend to be surrounded by secrecy… his sculptures for example are masked with wax to create utterly contemporary pieces but veiled as if their origins and meaning should remain hidden.
Or Danny Rolph’s collages which piece together images that create a writhing cacophony of references to places, people and contemporary culture, often sourced from his immediate surroundings; an airport, a hotel room or similar.
8 more artists including Jessica Coleman, Judith Cowan, Mandy Hudson, David Kefford, Peter Lamb, Fiona MacDonald, and Jennifer Taylor collect, reconstruct and reconstruct for this exhibition running until late January. More info this way.
