Malleability @ XPO Gallery – Paris

10/01/2013 @ 6:00 pm - 16/02/2013 @ 5:00 pm

free

After last summer’s Low-tech domotics exhibition we fell in love with Vincent Broquaire‘s minimalistic paintings and imaginative solutions for the future of our appliances. XPO gallery is once again willing to push the popularity of one of their most successful artists by organizing his first solo show in Paris.

For Broquaire, illustrator and animator of all sorts of dreams and impossible mechanisms, “Malleability” represents another opportunity to ask the viewers about perception and the increasing symbiosis between real and virtual.

Is the device creating the tree, or the tree the device? Perhaps we can answer, both? Because, as with the digital world, as indeed with (gallery-attending) social ritual, humour and art, it is all man-made, all constructed reality, our culture. As such, there is an iterative loop of being created and in turn creating. So when we next see “Capture” or other works by Broquaire, we will see something different because our realities are ever changing and malleable. Perhaps that is Broquaire’s trompe l’oeil – or rather “trompe l’esprit” on reality – it looks the same and yet it has changed.

Opening next Thursday and running until mid-February “Malleability” brings Broquaire’s humorist approach to the uncertain future of evolution, where everything we know is artificial… because everything is man-made. More info this way, images on his tumblr.
