Inside Out @ Since Upian – Paris
18/03/2011 - 23/04/2011
freeAhhhh we love Since Upian, tiny but powerful exhibitions, always discovering some of the best artists from the plastic & graphic scene (but not only!). Their latest addition? Monsieur Régis-R… The prince of plastic, who’ll be exhibiting @ the Parisian gallery until the end of next month.
Régis-R (born in Bordeaux now living in Paris) is one of those contemporary French artists who loves plastic, in all its forms, and if he can glorify it… even better! But he likes to question our erratic and evil human behavior at the same time.
At a time when rubbish is becoming a major problem for civilisation, his work is driven by a deep ecological awareness, and by a desire to make people see waste in a new light.
Régis helps himself from our rubbish bins, our forgotten corners, our rejects…. Fascinated by objects, plastic preferably, their shapes, colours and mechanics, the artist quite naturally lingers on operating on and assembling the pieces he collects. After sorting and archiving, the ‘survivors’ undergo a very spontaneous first stage of transformation and shaping. Melted, cut up, folded, they’re recomposed to create an entirely new object.
Once again, like many contemporary artists Régis mixes art & his very personal social discourse, which forces the viewer to face and confront many familiar symbols from their own life. Those of you who pop by Since Upian before the end of April may face some funny, other sarcastic and sometimes even tragic compositions that are meant to weak you up or even question your own daily habits (this is what the artist hopes…).
A sometimes aggressive discourse which we invite you to visit if you happen to be in Paris in the coming weeks, and if this Friday have absolutely nothing to do then you should grab a free drink at the opening with the artist, the fans, the friends, the wannabes and many more people (who are there just for the drink). Enjoy!
