felicita delves deeper into a Polish heritage with the release of ‘hej!,’ a poignant insight into the eerie realm of recognition + tradition

felicita releases new music and a new video called ‘hej!’ via the PC Music label, today. Harbinger to a forthcoming album, out in early 2018, and building on the London-based producer’s explorations of his Polish heritage, the video is an eerie and deeply poignant step back into a growing classically-influenced element of the artist’s typically experimental, often discordant, catalogue. Lonely piano keys are accompanied by the distant whoops and hollers of a Slavic folk music tradition. An elderly voice recites a nursery rhyme about joy but it sounds tragic.

Accompanying the track is a video directed by regular collaborator Matt Copson; pink-toned, slow motion close-ups of the traditional dress and movement of Mazury Dance Company from south-west London where a binational felicita grew up. ‘Hej!’ also comes in advance of the second iteration of the artist’s ‘Soft Power’ collaboration with Śląsk Song and Dance Ensemble, first performed and commissioned by Poland’s Unsound Festival in Krakow in 2016.**

felicita’s ‘Soft Power’ collaborative performance with Śląsk Song and Dance Ensemble is on at London’s Barbican on December 8, 2017.
