Dissecting codes of conduct with Ashley Holmes in Shape Up at Losers Gym

, 6 June 2017

Ashley Holmes presented solo exhibition Shape Up at Nottingham’s Losers Gym which opened May 4 and is running to May 28.

The mixed media installation brought together painting, video, text and an audio installation that features a mixtape by Permissions. The Sheffield-based artist explores “intergenerational understandings and productions of Black British culture” and the politics of power that run through ‘codes of conduct.’

He recently took part in Sheffield’s Site Gallery Platform Residency with exhibition Dot Dot Dit Dit Dot Dot Dash (2017).

Founded in 2014 as a studio space, Losers Gym became a project space in 2016 run by Freddy Griffiths, Sam Hewland, Jake Kent, Francis Madders, Alex Walker and Josh Wheeler.**
