“A symbol for cuteness.” Pamela Rosenkranz’s She Has No Mouth at Sprüth Magers

, 2 May 2017

Pamela Rosenkranz presented solo exhibition She Has No Mouth at Berlin’s Sprüth Magers which opened April 29 and is running to June 17, 2017.

Pamela Rosenkranz’s installation brings together painting, light, scent and sound to continue her “longstanding engagement with the biological and evolutionary underpinnings of art, her investigation of materiality and immateriality, pigments and pheromones, microbes, colors, and scents.”

Interested in both pre-historic and contemporary stimulation, the Zurich-based artist ‘mines malleable codes’ in perfume, the tabby patterns on cats and the light of ‘high noon blue’ to name a few materials, evoking a sense of sexiness. A cat’s ‘meow’ is explored in relation to biological domestication as cats have learned to make this sound in adulthood to appear more attractive.

The press release acts an accompanying piece of research, providing the viewer with information on how the cat has been “anthropomorphized, domesticated and, culturally speaking, developed as a symbol for cuteness.”**
