Kyle Petreycik is presenting solo exhibition As Is at New York’s Emma Geller Green, opening September 17 and running to October 8.

The New York-based artist who works with a range of materials —cups, towels, bottles, handwritten notes, extension cords —will produce and installation that takes architectural cues from living space and responds to the exhibition’s accompanying press release text expounding on the complimentary potential of what it calls ‘The Curtains’.

The writing follows a narrative and logic that’s as elusive as the aforementioned drapes, or “beings that hide from every single thing they can, around objects, between peripheries.” Given its introduction to the artist’s practice of living with and looking at the everyday pieces Petreycik tends to work with, these curtains’ ever-present un-presence expresses the paradoxical nature of the artist’s wide-ranging approach to producing art, “from carefully arranged collections of objects to precisely engineered wooden or plastic forms.”
