The New Museum will present a major exhibition of contemporary art from the Arab world titled Here and Elsewhere, running at their NYC location from July 16 to September 28.

Exhibiting over 45 artists spanning 15 countries, Here and Elsewhere establishes the New Museum’s commitment to art outside of New York’s (and the Western world’s) at times myopic art-worldview, exploring artists that not only hail from “elsewhere” but also work internationally and are thus un-pinnable to a localised ideology or aesthetic.

The exhibition will feature personal reportage-style videos by Syrian filmmaking collective Abounaddara, video portraiture by French-Moroccan artist Bouchra Khalili, photographs of everyday Beirut life during its 15-year Civil War by Fouad Elkoury, as well as Marwa Arsanios‘ short video Have Have You Ever Killed a Bear? Or Becoming Jamila, among many other artists and media.
