Adrien Merigeau

No no no, it’s not Jennifer Evans and her particular folk we’re talking about today (maybe another one) but Adrien Merigeau instead (you know… the one behind Old Fangs right?)…

This French now living in Dublin nearly made his disturbing short win the prestigious animation short prize @ Sundance in 2009 and is currently involved in the creation of a video for “the lost racer” by NLF3 (an indie-tropical group from Paris).

Adrien studied animation at the Ecole des Métiers du Cinéma d’Animation in Angoulême and he’s been working as an animator and background designer at Cartoon Saloon in Kilkenny (Ireland) since 2004; also participating in several feature and short film projects one of which was nominated last year to best animated feature film.

His biggest success uptodate was the magnificent Old Fangs which uses characters from his 2003 college film “Le Carnet de Chloé” and wouldn’t stop winning award after award (Seoul, festanca, giffoni….. ), a short that you can watch on his vimeo page, rather obscure, asphyxiating … as if taken from the darkest book of the Grim brothers.

But maybe you should also follow Adrien for his drawing achievements and not only his animation pearls. Having worked with the Irish-language books for children publisher Cló Mhaigh Eo (more in particular for An Táin), he’s also found time to create his own design & animation collective…. andmapsandplans with the also filmaker & illustrator Alan Holly… which we shall talk about another day.

So as we always say, need new inspiring material? Head to his blog then, and enjoy.
