Google TV

This may well be Jesus TV … although it’s not done by Apple so… let’s just call it GodTV or as Google puts it: TV meets the Internet. The Gtv microsite was just launched a few hours ago, giving a few more details… very exciting….

Two clear hardware manufacturers for now (Sony with standalone sexy TVs, and Logitech and their box) and probably not all the major cable players big G would have wanted from the start (ABC, CBS and Fox … are absent for now….) but still, many other interesting companies like HBO or Turner Broadcasting will be appealing enough in this first version….

HBO GO, the Catch-up channel is probably GTV's major asset outside the Internet

Where big G obviously stands out of the competition (Apple TV, Tivo, Boxee & Roku) is that perfect Internet integration: despite spending 5h/day in front of the stupid box, Americans are much more selective nowadays when it comes to TV programming; people are now used to watching what they want when they want it…. and the Internet mostly accelerated this trend.

the obvious advantage is access to all those Internet video sites...

Most of use don’t even turn on our TVs anymore, we just go for Hulu, BBC iPlayer & so on and maybe adding a window into the internet would make us go back to our sofas and be passive again….. maybe.

The best feature will probably be the access to 3rd party services through their apps … for now Gtv will come preloaded with Netflix, Twitter, CNBC, Pandora, Napster, NBA Game Time, Amazon VOD and Gallery… and next year the Android Marketplace shall be accessible too… not bad huh?

and your Android phone as a remote control...

Well while we die waiting here in the UK to arrive our American pals will probably see Gtv by the end of the month. For now the announcements are expected for next week (Sony October 12th and Logitech in a couple of days).
