Hypnic Jerk @ Smart Objects, Oct 21

21 October 2016

The Hypnic Jerk group exhibition is on at Los Angeles’ Smart Objects, opening October 21.

The show features work by Louisa Gagliardi, Vanessa Gully Santiago, Ann Hirsch, and Cheyenne Julien and comes with a short text or poem  presumably describing the sleep twitch — a feeling of falling on the edge of sleep — it’s named after:

like goosebumps
a vestigial reflex
jerking us from sleep
when our brains imagine our bodies
to be falling from the primeval tree*

Of the four artists, Hirsch recently exhibited solo exhibition Dr. Guttman’s Office at the Echo Park space in October and November last year.

See the FB event page for details.**
