bitforms gallery launches a new group exhibition titled Memory Burn, running at their New York space from July 10 to August 16.
Inspired by The Invention of Morel, a 1940 novel by Argentinian author Adolfo Bioy Casares, Memory Burn observes the phenomena of mortality and death in relation to the technological advancement of recording devices, referring simultaneously to “unforgettable visions burned in the mind and to digital burning used to archive memories”.
The exhibition features the works of seven artists and artist collectives. Daniel Canogar will present ‘Enredos 1’, a large-scale photographic print depicting bodies tangled in wire, while Japanese artist duo exonemo will display works from their series Body Paint. Showing his work in the U.S. for the first time, artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer will present his ‘Level of Confidence’ project, commemorating the mass student kidnapping in Iguala, Mexico, and Sara Ludy will show her series of web based .gif animations Beaches.
Finally, Sarah Rothberg will has a virtual reality re-creation of her childhood home in ‘Memory/Place: My House’, Angela Washko will show her video series ‘Free Will Mode’, and Andrea Wolf is bringing her series of found super8 and 8mm films called ‘Unsolicited Memories; Archival Exercises’.
