New Theatre

Hotel Moon @ New Theater, Mar 12 – 18

11 March 2015

New Theatre brings a new musical to its stage, titled Hotel Moon and running at the Berlin space from March 12 to March 18.

The now completely sold-out musical play was written by the collaborative American duo Calla Henkel and Max Pitegoff in conjunction with associate editor of Frieze d/e Magazine (and BCR host)  Pablo Larios, and features musical direction by French-Canadian artist Dan Bodan and Trevor Lee Larson of YYAA Recordings, as well as performances by sixteen different artists.

By way of description, the musical only offers this short, abstract text:

And the people,
They say to themselves
They got
Nothing but time here.
Christmastime.
Nothing but time behind ‘em.
Sure, they coulda had more.
So there’s a kind of… restlessness…

Spills performance @ New Theatre, Dec 4, 5, 7

2 December 2014

New Theatre brings another round of performances with Spills, written by Yael Salomonowitz and running at the Berlin space on December 4, 5 and 7.

Spills comes on the footsteps of the Spills (Prologue) – which ran for one night in September, bracketed by the sold-out The End of Love performance in August and the three-night-only DD Mood at the end of October – and brings together a handful of artists, including Juliette Blightman, Alexander Coggin, Mia Goyette, Heatsick, Flora Klein, Billy Rennekamp and Tobias Spichtig.

In lieu of a performance description, Spills only provides a German text that translates, roughly, to:

The feeling is weightless on days when the city seems small and we appear large in it. The observation conducted confirms the assessment is correct, but the profound lack of understanding seldom differs – one is tempted to give examples, without meaning to. We leave it.

DD Mood @ New Theatre, Oct 30 – Nov 1

30 October 2014

Berlin’s New Theatre is welcoming a new play, titled DD Mood, running at their Urbanstrasse space for three nights, from October 30 to November 1.

The performance is written and directed by Georgia Gray (whose name just sounds like it was made for theatre) and stars a stacked cast of 14, including artists, designers and musicians, and names like Emma Bayley, Heike-Karin Foell, Mia von Matt, and Billy Rennekamp.

And some of the names featured in DD Mood are repeat offenders, such as von Matt and Gray herself, having participating in some of the theatre’s earlier productions, including the one-night-only The End of Love, which we reviewed here.
