One of our quick quickies because as usual, we miss half of what’s going on and can’t cover everything that happens all the time, but there’s exactly two weeks left (still) to pop by the Parisian version of the Yvon Lambert gallery to admire the “artiste totale”: Markus Schinwald.

It’s quite a unique occasion to admire the Austrian’s works as this is his very first solo exhibition in the French capital, so all that psychological analysis, all that discomfort, irrational paradigms and above all, all that strangeness present in most of his paintings… are coming to town.

He won’t be bringing his apartment-terrarium or his Animal Works to Paris (we leave that to the Murcian gallery La Conservera) but once of his space-time-environment manipulations instead. Starting with a blocking white wall to block the gallery space and that creates narrow corridors that block many times the visitor to access some of his paintings.

The heart of the exhibition (and why we highly recommended it) are his well-known 19th century found paintings which he alters by intervening on the subjects’ faces… he adds a mask here, a mouth prostheses there… and all seems perfectly natural, although repulsive sometimes.

Ahhh… the 19th century European aristocracy… so “modern” in some of their habits… you have until May 5th! More info on their webpage.
