Sam Lewitt @ Kunsthalle Basel, Apr 1 – May 29

30 March 2016

Sam Lewitt is presenting solo show More Heat Than Light at Kunsthalle Basel, opening March 31 and running to May 29.

The New York-based artist has recently shown in group exhibitions, at London’s Pilar Corrias and LA’s Hannah Hoffman, that have touched on the effects of physical and psychological disturbance brought on by the general state and economy of fragmentation, speed and precarity by which we live and express ourselves.

For the coming show in Basel, the artist will use heat and light in a ‘parasitic’ way to intervene in the infrastructure of the institution.

Fire and heat are usually used and metaphysically implied to warm things up, to fuel them, but Lewitt, it seems is more interested in that which is the cause of friction, of resistance and of a slowing down of process.

See the Kunsthalle Basel website for further details.**
