Himali Singh Soin + David Tappeser @ Rich Mix, Sep 16

15 September 2016

Himali Singh Soin and David Tappeser are presenting performance lecture ‘You Really Got Me Now’ at London’s Rich Mix on September 16.

As part of the East London venue’s Radical Ideas programme, the event comes introduced with a press release that offers the tagline “A story about love, dreams and imaginary borders at the confluence of multiple realities” and a tongue-in-cheek trailer (see below).

The performance is described as an experimental, multi-faceted account of “a reconstituted/remembered past”, featuring Indian poet Sing Soin —who recently took part in The White Pube’s Zayn Malik Zindabad screening —and German jazz musician Tappeser. It will include a spoken word and music performance following the narrative of the two artist’s history together, as mapped out and reconstructed via their words, sounds “artifacts, memorabilia and digital traces”.

See the Rich Mix website for details.**

Zayn Malik Zindabad @ Lewisham Arthouse, Aug 26

25 August 2016

The Zayn Malik Zindabad group screening is on at the Education Space at Lewisham Arthouse on August 26.

Organised  by Zarina Muhammad and Gabrielle de la Puente of The White Pube, and co-hosted with Sophie Chapman and Kerri Jefferis, the evening will show moving image art by artists that “happen 2 b young and in the South Asian Diaspora” featuring works by Somnath BhattHimali Singh SoinAnisa JacksonSabella D’SouzaSeema MattuIlavenil JayapalanRathai ManivannanKaty JaliliHassan E Vawda and Zarina Muhammed.

The press release frames the evening within a humorous yet succinct message that declares: “The White Pube is tired of white ppl, white walls, and white wine. So for one night only, we are hosting brown ppl, white walls and chai. Come and view work by brown artists in a real vacuum, where brown-ness is banal, where you can O.O the art without the white-iarchy lookin over ur shoulder, askin if they can eat ur Other.”
