One Year Art Book Fair (OYABF), Jun 15 – 26

The One Year Art Book Fair (OYABF) is on at Oslo’s Atelier Felix at Kunsternes Hus, running June 15 to 26.

OYABF is an initiative set up by publisher and books store Torpedo, based in the Norwegian capital and is being carried out at Kunstnernes Hus across 2016 monthly to celebrate its 10-year birthday and to consider via conversations, talks and book displays various aspects of contemporary publishing, including its recent revival within the art world.

Among those involved in the series is artist collective Buenos Tiempos Int., who recently curated An Evening of Poetry —reviewed by aqnb here —and are currently hosting work by Natasha Papadopoulou’s Progress on their website-cum-online exhibition space. They’ll be taking part alongside curatorial publishers FRANK and Spesial Nord, both based in Oslo, Girls Like Us (glum) from Amsterdam and Petunia who are based in Marseilles and published part i of ‘The Ages of Beatrix Ruf: A History of Power Transvestism’, a fashion editorial on power drag by Buenos Tiempos Int. back in 2014.

The second edition will be presented specifically for OYABF this June.

Miss Read 2016 @ AdK, Jun 10 -12

Miss Read: The Berlin Art Book Fair is on at the German capitals’s Akademie der Künste (AdK), running June 10 to 12.

Returning to the aforementioned cultural institute for its 2016 edition, the event showcases a wide range of the “most interesting artists/authors, artist periodicals and art publishers” —including the likes of Broken Dimanche Press, Book Works, Girls Like Us, Montez Press, Sternberg Press, and artist Martin Kohout’s TLTRPreß.

There will also be a series of lectures, discussions, book launches and workshops exploring “the boundaries of contemporary publishing and the possibilities of the book” with an opening party on June 10. A closing party is scheduled for June 12 at ACUD, and Conceptual Poetics Day will also run in conjunction with the fair on June 11 to “explore the imaginary border between visual art and literature”.

Other publishers taking part worth looking out for include White Fungus, X Marks the Bökship, MIT Press, and n.b.k and many more.

Girls Like Us #7 @ Minibar Stockholm, Dec 9

Culture magazine Girls Like Us finally lands in Stockholm with its seventh issue, themed ‘BODY’, launching at Minibar Stockholm on December 9.

The new issue features interviews with the artist K8 Hardy, cinematographer Babette Mangolte, artist and writer Louwrien Wijers, filmmaker Mariah Garnett, essays by Derica Shields and Crystal Campbell, and various Q&As with healers, herbalists and witches.

The launch event comes with a whole evening of programming, including the screening of Mariah Garnett’s ‘Picaresques’ (2011) at 18:30, Francine Agbodjalou reading the essay ‘Bodied’ by Derica Shields at 20:00, and Vaska Fimpen playing songs on the theme ‘Sad Pony / Hot Legs’.
