Unlocking the utopian club with Wiener Festwochen’s ‘Hyperreality’ programme, May 12 – Jun 18

Wiener Festwochen‘s Hyperreality music programme is on at Vienna’s Schloss Neugebäude, running May 24 to 27.

As part of the Austrian art and culture festival, running May 12 to June 18, the three-days of music events ask its audience to “perceive the club as a utopian space” with a performance per day by groups of artists including the likes of  Battle-ax, Holly Herndon, Jlin, Nidia Minaj, Endgame, Mechatok, Tami TAmnesia Scanner, Embaci, Klein, Chino Amobi, Angel-Ho, Juliana HuxtableFatima al Qadiri, Tomasa del RealGhazal, and many more.

Running since the 1950s, the Fest defines itself as a space that challenges “the dominant patterns of thought and action, creating space for ecstatic experience, releasing potential, and producing utopias,” bringing together theatre, music, fine arts, performance, dance, installation, workshops and more.

In addition to the music programming, a number of events are taking place at the Academy of Unlearning and Performeum (temporary museum for performance), with some recommendations below:

Kamixlo, Angélico EP release, Nov 11

Kamixlo is releasing his EP Angélico via the Bala Club label on November 11.

The new recording is the second by the London-based producer — following the Demonico EP released on PAN imprint Codes in 2015 — and the artwork is made in collaboration with Daniel Swan. A project that started at the beginning of 2016, it describes its influences as being taken from Japanese wrestling to metal to industrial to dancehall and is about “the birth of something happy and sweet – the Bala Club movement”.

Kamixlo is co-founder of Bala Club collective, set up along with his brother Uli K and friend Endgame. The group will also be hosting ‘Birth of Angélico‘ night at London’s Miranda on November 12, with a secret line-up yet to be announced.

Toxe, Mind:Body:Fitness @ Tropical Waste, Feb 12

Berlin-based producers Toxe and Mind:Body:Fitness are playing London’s Tropical Waste night at The Waiting Room in Stoke Newington, February 12.

As part of the Staycore crew, including Mechatok and Dinamarca, Swedish headlining artist Toxe presents the industrialised musical object in HD, accompanied by Mind:Body:Fitness’ sound of hypercapital-meets-visual Kate Cooper‘s sight of hypercapital, as illustrated by a still from the visual artist’s stylised feminine subject of RIGGED (2014) on Mind:Body:Fitness’ Soundcloud account.

Also supporting the show are London-based artists MM of Her Records and Endgame.

Simon Whybray‘s JACK댄스 night returns to London’s Power Lunches for another night of performance and party on Jun 13.

The event, featuring GFOTY, Finn Diesel, Endgame, DJ DJ Booth, and Tommy Kid, is part of an ongoing club night music series by artist and hacker Whybray bringing in tonnes of great artists and big names over its course, represented here on this new ‘「 NON STOP POP® 」’ mix recently uploaded to the JACK댄스 soundcloud.
