An evening of readings and encounters @ HORSEANDPONY, Jun 29

28 June 2016

Berlin’s HORSEANDPONY will host an evening of readings and encounters on June 29.

In and amongst the work and solo show by Nick Jeffrey, Dream Divider curated by Carolina Ongaro of Jupiter Woods, several artists will read and be present for a chat in an informal event that rounds up the final week of Jeffrey’s exhibition.

Speaking will be writers and artists William KherbekBitsy KnoxWieland Rambke, Matilda Tjäder and Alex Turgeon.

Dream Divider, which captures Jeffrey’s practice by emphasising his observations of gaps and blank spaces as they are filled in, and his tendency towards filters, touches and additions seems like a fitting place to experience readings inside.

See the FB event page for more details.**

Jupiter Woods @ Sorbus-galleria, Apr 22 – May 1

22 April 2016

Jupiter Woods is presenting Longshore Drift at Helsinki’s Sorbus gallery, opening April 22 and running to May 21.

The London and Vienna-based space will take up residence in the Finnish capital for ten days, as a collective off-site project by four of Jupiter Woods’ six founding members: Hanna Laura Kaljo, Lucy Lopez, Carolina Ongaro and Cory Scozzari. The time-based exhibition and events programme will include artists Sanna Helena Berger,  Rob Chavasse,  Maria Gorodeckaya,  Emily Jones,  Josip Novosel and S E I D among others and draw on the titular geographical process involving the movement of sediments along a coast at an angle to the shoreline: “swash and backwash”.

The aim of Longshore Drift, opening on the Friday April 22, will evolve over the following weekend with a series of commissioned objects, gestures and acts by the 10 participating artists —also including Viktor Timofeev,  The Mycological Twist, Matilda Tjäder, and Holly White —and focus on the “embodied experience” of curators and visitors within the installation that draws on “the physical infrastructure of Jupiter Woods’ London and Vienna locations.”

See the Sorbus-galleria website for the full programme.**

Exquisite Collapse @ blip blip blip, Feb 3 – 25

2 February 2015

The blip blip blip art space in Leeds is hosting a group exhibition this month, titled Exquisite Collapse and running from February 3 to February 25.

Curated by Jupiter Woods co-founder Carolina Ongaro, the group show takes a Brion Gysin quote as its inspiration, building on his conceptions of abstracted realities and shuffled semantic orders: “The process of shattering and decoding words and images has the potential to exceed existing myths and the official systems upon which we base our knowledge,” the press release writes.

Participating in the exhibition are photo-etching artist Salvatore Arancio and sculptural artist James Balmforth, as well as Emily Jones, Marcus Kleinfeld, Fay Nicolson, Marianne Spurr, and Viktor Timofeev.
