Rui Ho + the BCR Incubator artists to listen to

6 December 2016

Rui Ho is the latest of four BCR Incubator residents to release a new track. Following the October 17 release of Bonaventure’s ‘Complexion‘ on NON Worldwide, the Berlin-based producer’s ‘Ru Meng Ling‘ released on Shanghai-based label Genome 6.66 Mbp on December 6, is yet another push in an exciting new direction, as supported by the Berlin Community Radio (BCR) crew.

The BCR Incubator residency project was put together for the first time this year, and began with an open call in April to “support Berlin-based emerging electronic music talents with a special focus on underrepresented and marginalised voices”. Those voices here include Bonaventure and Rui Ho, as well Nene Hatun and The Neighbourhood Character. They were selected by a jury of artists and industry personalities, including Tabitha Thorlu-Bangura of London’s NTS Radio, Soraya Bouwier of Truants blog, Frankie Hutchinson of Discwoman, and producer rRoxymore as well as BCR founders Anastazja Moser and Sarah Miles.

From May through to September, BCR hosted each artist for a month, providing a radio residency, music release, Ableton Live 9 license and training, studio time and mastering with an associated producer, as well as the platform for a live performance at the BCR Club of the Month event.

Rui Ho

June resident Rui Ho’s ‘Ru Meng Ling’  is inspired by the well-known Chinese poet Li Qingzhao, where the music producer/DJ explores ‘female identity’ through a mix of electronic music and more traditional Chinese sounds, while focussing “on cyber identity as well as deconstructive and emotive internet music.” Rui Ho also performed for BCR’s Boat Rage #4, as part of the Berlin Biennale 2016. A remix of ‘Ru Meng Ling’ by Why Be is also featured on Thump US
