Planète Manga

Here’s one of our quickies. It started last Saturday but it will be on-going for the next 3,5 months, a real luxury for Manga freak lovers!

Parisian contemporary arts (and other things) center “Beaubourg” just opened an anime film cycle 1 week ago within their “13/16 studio” (you know… that “exclusive” part of the museum dedicated to adolescents). Not that many of the films they’ve chosen for the 4-month cycle are particularly adolescent-oriented but…. given the dimension and ambition of the initiative we can’t complain. So what we’ll we find within “Planet Manga”?

One week after this year’s edition of the Paris Manga festival, Pompidou opened their very own 4-month manga symposium. 4 Months of non-stop film screenings, music performances, initiation workshops (for comics drawing, costume designing…), master-classes and interviews with famous authors and directors from the Asian universe (is not all Japanese, there’ve also carefully decided to include South Korean, Taiwanese and Chinese new trends too).

Pretty much what you would get in a typical weekend manga salon…. but for 4 months instead!

It is quite a unique opportunity for newbies and experts to fully immerse into this Asian art… with figures like  Hagio Moto, Takemiya Keiko or even Fumiyo Kôno and with a close look at new young comic creators with editors such as Taiwan comix,  Saï comics (S.Korea) & Special Comix (China), “Planete Manga” is your once-in-a-lifetime freak festival you can’t miss.

Around 40 renown authors will be passing by Beabourg in the coming months thanks to a partnership with the Joshibi Art & Design Tokyo university and and the international  Kyôto Manga museum (associated to the  Kyôto Seika University.
