Gabriel Orozco @ Tate Modern – London

02/04/2011 - 03/04/2011

Mr Orozco made his name in the early 90s  as one of the most important artists of his generation. Moving constantly… no fixed studio… refusing to be identified with a nation or region, and drawing his inspiration from the different places where he lived and traveled to.

His work is characterized by a lively interest in the elements of the urban landscape and the human body & fed by the humdrum incidents of daily life, with their poetry of randomness and paradox. The boundaries between the art object and the workaday environment are deliberately blurred, and in the end art and reality are deliberately mixed.

Orozco, who lives in Paris for several months a year, has been closely involved in developing the project, helping to design, together with Centre Pompidou curator Christine Macel, an exhibition of more than 80 works that offers an overview of his career from the beginnings to today. It offers an opportunity to see drawings, photographs, paintings and sculptures from collections public and private in France and abroad, many of which have never been seen in the Galia before.

This exhibition at  Tate Modern follows shows at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Kunstmuseum, Basel and Centre Pompidou in Paris…so you have from January 19th to April 25th!

The Exhibition is not mind-blowing (trust us) and maybe paying those 10€ or 10£ (when it gets to Tate Modern) may be a bit too much. But if you like Orozco’s unique pieces (have a look at many more here). These are two great opportunities to see them.
