Nina Kettiger presented solo exhibition How many footsteps to create a path? at Berlin’s Francisverein which opened October 21 and ran to November 19, 2017.
Minimalistic, the space looks like a boutique clothing store. Pale pastel colours hang around the space on T-shirts – one hung on a clothes hanger, the others draped off of metal protrusions from the wall becoming flags. Clay bones and other skeletal forms become placeholders for candles, with a satanic but playful depiction of the devil C-print framed on the adjacent wall.
Accompanying the installation is a poem written as the press release, where the Berlin-based artist meanders through words and “paths [that] lead nowhere,” accumulating words of wisdom to “counteract the lack of confidence in myself” and to “turn bones into torches.”**
