Exploring absurdity + laughter to unravel something deeper in group show The Humours at Melbourne’s MUMA

, 30 November 2017

The Humours group exhibition at Melbourne’s MUMA opened October 7 and is running to December 16.

Curated by Hannah Mathews, the show explores strategies of comedy and absurdity and features an international group of artists including Gabriel Abrantes, Barbara Cleveland, Matthew Griffin, Glenn Ligon, Mary Reid Kelley with Patrick Kelley and Mika Rottenberg

Looking at the  root of why something is funny rather than just ‘what makes funny,’ the installation brings together video, sculpture, performance and photographic works that take on various “comedic personalities, strategies and tropes” that unravel and open up more serious discussions about gender, history and race.**
