The SI SEDES NON IS group exhibition at Athens’ The Breeder opened April 6 and ran to August 26.
Curated by Milovan Farronato, the show is described in the press release as a “chaotically orchestrated gathering” and featured work by over 20 artists, including Anna Franceschini, Karl Holmqvist, Angelo Plessas, Paulina Olowska, Prem Sahib Vanessa Safavi and Camille Henrot, among others.
Turning the gallery into an ‘alchemical squat,’ the installation included sculpture, painting, performance and text. A series of ‘magical writings’ and ‘anarchic performances’ would begin late into the night, starting before 12am and going until 4am. Quiet moments of dream-states move through the space, including Goshka Macuga’s ‘Somnambulist’ who lays on the floor, “the great magician half asleep, half awake,” while Socratis Socratous becomes a parrot whisperer and the basement doubles as an exhibition space of illuminated neon lights and TVs, as well as a dressing room for the performers.**
