Hertta Kiiski and Kimmo Modig present duo exhibition MELANKOLIA2047 at Turku’s Gallery Vanha Raatihuone, running July 15 to August 20.
The two person show takes place in a moment when ‘the old normal is gone’ and ‘heat records are routinely shattered.’ Kiiski’s object based works create mini landscapes formed out of diasecs, an HD video, natural sponges, sticks, plants, ceramics, sand and other materials, set against the backdrop of a sound piece ‘For Herttta’ (2017) by Modig.
The track moves between cinematic feels, empty vast ambience and close up irritation. The press release is a short narrative by Kiiski that factually outlines the bleak future in 30 years where she notes “In July 2017 “I’m building a shelter which does not shelter on a float that does not float.”**
