Grace Weaver presented solo exhibition super busy at Berlin’s Soy Capitán running April 28 to June 24, 2017.
“In these paintings”, Weaver writes, “tragicomedy falls more into the gentle register of #fail than Shakespearean melodrama.” The New York-based artist works with painting and metropolitan daily life to merge high modernism with cartoon mannerisms.
The stereotypical protagonists behave like stage props in carefully choreographed mises en scènes that are representative of a generation of millennials. The digitally informed zeitgeist for which ‘image is everything’ explores life’s accidental beauty and banal tragedies, pairing youthful buoyancy with a sensitivity for pitfalls of human interaction.**
